I am looking at using a php developer with Open Source experience for working on a project with me either as a partner or on a contractual basis. The concept could be lucrative for someone wanting to invest time and resources as a partner. My experience is more on the marketing side (although I do have a graphical design background with Adobe Creative Suite, eLearning products and Dreamweaver, Flash, etc). I live in the Pasadena area of Houston. This could be a good opportunity for someone with an open mind and vision to get in at the ground floor.

I am looking for a community to exchange ideas about MySQL and PHP. I am interested in getting my feet wet developing websites. I am just getting into this - a pure newbie. I have been in the computer industry since 1970 - not a newbie at that. I started with CP/M machines (Intel 8086 machines). I did little programming, but there was precious little software of any kind. I went through the MS-DOS, Windows, Apple OS and Macintosh gammut in the PC world. I was a unix administrator for a couple of years, but 2 years is not really long enough to qualify as an administrator. I have developed some databases in FileMaker Pro since its inception in the 1980's. I have a "monster" (not by mainframe standards) database that includes 70+ files (tables). It has been "in development" since 1991. I am starting some websites with my son, who is ahead of me in some of this. I want to do the database part. He is very new to that.

This is a pretty recent group, so I don't think we ever had a company/corporation send us information about a job opening. That is, officially send us anything, as there are several posts at the Meetup group site about job openings.

In any case, feel free to send your job opening details to us (jpm@houstonphp.org), and I'll make sure to mention that at our next meeting. You could also attend the meeting yourself and do a quick heads-up to everyone.
